When I was young I used to read a lot and then I'd write it out.
I used to sing a lot.
When you were young did you ever think that you'd live to see?
That you'd live long enough?

It took a while to learn not to talk too much.
Broken glass in hand with a face to touch.
Fell in love with darkness and a lust for life.
Channeled through the music freedom from the strife.

When I was young did I chase a dream?
Was my music real or was it just a means?
When you were young did you take a chance running through the Sprawl before you learned to crawl?
When I was a little bit young...

I've lost a lot of friends to the silent war.
I've lost a lot of loved ones to the killing floor.
It doesn't mean a thing if your heart's not in.
Music gave us hope, turned loss to win.

When you were young did you trust your friends?
Trust them unto death? Did they let you down?
When you were young did you ever think that you'd be a dad?
That you'd live long enough?
When you were a little bit young you'd sleep with your boots on.

Steel toes for a carpenter.
Chasing down habits I've apprenticed for.
